The SAMS (Scottish Association of Magicians) convention takes place at the Park Hotel, Kilmarnock next weekend from Friday 4th May to Sunday 6th May. The Gala Show will feature – Pat Fallon, John Kimmons, June Leith, Peter Kinney, Michael Neto and Toby Davies.  Lecturers will include Pat Fallon, John Kimmons and Ian Adair. With Close up acts Michael Neto, John Bowden, Toby Davies and Pat Fallon.

Nevin Cody joins fellow Irish magicians John Bowden and Pat Fallon as part of this years line up.  Over the past few years Nevin has been climbing the ranks and is now considered one of the best comedy magic acts in the country.  His hilarious style has been wowing audiences all over Ireland.  He is also a resident magician and magic creator at the Secret Castle of Magic which was Ireland’s first regular magic venue and which is due to re-open soon.

This weekend will see Nevin perform on the Saturday show at SAMS.  We wish Nevin and Messrs. Bowden & Fallon the very best of luck.  it is great to see three Irish names as booked talent at a UK Convention.

The Video :: John Bowden, Honorary Life Patron of The SIM

Here it is.  The video you have all been waiting for.  On Saturday 30th April 2011 at The Shenanigans Banquet John Bowden, along with Séamus Hanratty and Pat Fallon, was made Honorary Life Patron of The SIM.  As part of the fun of the weekend David Williamson recounted a story of a prank that ought to go down in the annals of Irish magic.  A prank that, unknown to some was actually captured on security camera as it happened.

Special mention to Nevin Cody for the idea, Ciaran McCormack for putting it all together, Eamon Murphy for camera work and to Paul Wilson for directing the shoot.  Cast include Brendan as himself, Nevin as himself, Natalie as Pat Fallon, Brian Daly as John Bowden and David Williamson as himself.

Confused?  Click play below and get ready to laugh out loud or download the video here.

Paul Wilson Lecture at The SIM

Paul Wilson lectured at the SIM for their June meeting to help celebrate John Bowden's 30 years in magic.  A huge crowd, many travelling long distances, were on hand to lap up the stunning magic Paul performed and thought.  Paul has incredible technique and is quite capable of dealing seconds , middles and bottoms all night long but the material featured in his lecture was kept within the technical grasp of everyone present.  His card at any number was a particular highlight for your editor.  You an view the photos of the night on our Flickr stream by clicking on the link on the right menu.

As an aside, it was really wonderful to see such a great turnout. Hopefully we can all continue to support events like this all over the country.  Well done everyone.

New President at the SIM

John Bowden, after three years at the helm of the Society of Irish Magicians handed over the presidency to Brendan Byrne (that's me who runs this site) at the clubs recent AGM. IrishMagicNews (that's me) managed to grab a word with Brendan (that's me too) during some down time and here is what I said to myself .

"I am honoured and humbled by my appointment and look forward, together with a terrific council and support team, to lead the SIM for the coming year.  There are exciting times ahead and while the future excites me it would be remiss of me not to  recognise the massive commitment that our outgoing president John Bowden brought through his 3 years as president.  John, who travels from Kilkenny to Dublin to attend meetings never missed a single one in his three year tenure.  In addition, he represented the SIM both domestically and internationally with charm, dignity and enthusiasm and I know the members of The SIM will join me in expressing sincere gratitude for his wonderful work and the time he devoted."
