The Magic Parlour at Hotel Westport
Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 12:21PM There has been a abundance of magic nights opening recently, mainly in Dublin and Belfast, so it is nice to see that magician Dan O'Donoghue together with Hotel Westport has launched a weekly night in the beautiful town of Westport Co. Mayo. From the Hotel Westport website:
The West of Ireland has always had something magical about it – and this summer one of Mayo’s leading hotels has captured some of that magic in a special dinner and show which takes place every Sunday Evening from June 17 until September 30 inclusive.
“The Magic Parlour” at the Four Star Hotel Westport is a Unique Experience which blends the best of Irish wit with some genuine magic, and some fine food for good measure. Central to the show’s enchantment is the unique personage of Dan O’Donoghue, one of the country’s best loved storytellers and magicians who combines the spirit story telling with the sleight of hand of a master conjurer.
It all takes place in an intimate and homely Parlour setting, where Dan blends his words and illusions to create an experience unlike anything his guests will have had before. His stories will transport people back in time, to an arcane world of Victorian ghosts and steam trains populated by uncanny characters. But Dan does not merely tell his stories – he invites his audience into his weird and wonderful world of ghost stories and folktales through his use of magic and mystery.
Sometimes funny, sometimes ghoulish and sometimes profound, the centrepiece to Dan’s mesmerising show is “The Railway Prophecy,” a remarkable and apparently true story of a Mayo prophecy and its astonishing results. The supernatural aspects of this tale – and there are many - are heightened by Dan’s mind-bending magic tricks, which he has honed through years of practice of his unfathomable and fascinating arts.
Always the entertainer, Dan has brought his act to some of the leading hotels in Las Vegas, which makes his appearance this summer in Mayo such a treat for those lucky enough to catch his show. Dan even brings a bit of Sin City to his act with his series of “Vegas Stories” – easily as grotesque and comic as the other parts of his show.
To make the evening even more alluring, the performance takes places between the courses of a sumptuous meal, courtesy of Hotel Westport’s award-winning kitchen – the Hotel was recently awarded the AA Rosette for Culinary Excellence, so you know the food will be good!
So if you are looking to have your palate caressed, your spine chilled, your mind boggled or your ribs tickled, you will find all four in one special dinner and show in Westport during the summer months.
Individual and group bookings are available.
Show every Sunday night run 'til the end of September. Kudos.
