Were you an April fool?

On the morning of 1st April you editor received a text from up and coming magician Nevin Cody to say he had been chosen as the warm up man for The Late Late Show.  Knowing that Aonghus McAnally, Ryan Tubridy's radio producer, was a fan of Nevin's work I presumed that was how it had all come about.  I immediately posted to Facebook and Twitter regaling the good news.  Two minutes later to my horror I realised I had been 'had' and removed the posts ASAP.  Not to be done with that I was also taken in later in the day when Owen Lean posted on his Facebook that he was emigrating to Canada.  Twice in the one day, how gullible am I?  It is good to see I am not alone however...as is testament by the following story courtesy of a Brian Daly prank on editor if MAGIC Magazine Stan Allen.

"Hi Brendan, just a quick story of a prank I pulled on Stan Allen editor of magic magazine.
I got an email from him on April fools day, It was meant for someone else named Brian. So I did what any fellow magician would have done... Pranked him.

From: "Stan Allen" > To: <Brian Daly>
Subject: deductions

Thanks, so much.
Stan

I knew it wasn't meant for me, but wrote Back pretending to be the other Brian...

Hi Stan,
I believe we agreed on a rate of $25 per hour.  Can you please confirm this?
Brian

I couldn't resist it and He replied with...

 Brian...
I thought it was $15, so we need to talk.  Are you available today (Thursday)?
Thanks...
Stan

And then I decided to turn up the heat a bit, knowing that he would be a good sport...

I'm not available today,
It's a pity your making an issue out of  $10 an hour.
It was horrible working in the office in the first place, but this is adding insult to injury.
You'll be hearing from my lawyer if this continues.
Brian

And he replied...
Brian...
Okay, you got me!!!  It took me a while to catch on (it's still early here in Nevada).  Nice one. Sorry for the ill-routed (?) email...
Stan
P.S. You're certainly worth the extra $10!!!

I would have loved to kept going with it but he copped on. I replied...

Stan...
I couldn't resist.
If I had gotten your first email on any other day than April fools, I probably wouldn't have thought of the prank.  I knew you would be a good sport too.  A friend of mine here in Ireland runs irishmagicnews.com and might like to put this little episode up as part of an April Fools day things, if it's ok with you of course? And I\'ll ask him to include a link to magic magazine.
cheers, Brian
PS. Tell the "real" Brian I almost got him an extra 10 bucks an hour, and now he owes me : )

The good natured Stan finally replied...

Brian...
Fair enough.
Stan
P.S. Let's just not mention the ten bucks to the real Brian!  :)
