Brendan Byrne on RTÉ Radio 1 John Murray Show

Earlier today your good editor here at IMN Brendan Byrne (that'd be me writing this) was a guest of Kathryn Thomas on RTÉ Radio 1. Kathryn was sitting in for John Murray on his morning show of the same name. I was asked on to discuss the recent controversy surrounding Teller and his Shadows routine. Listen to Kathryn's chat with me below.

Small Talk :: Shawn Farquhar on Mooney Show Audio

The afternoon after his full house lecture at the SIM Shawn Farquhar was a guest on The Mooney Show on RTÉ Radio 1. Joining host Aonghus McAnally and Shawn were SIM President Nevin Cody and my good self Brendan Byrne. Shawn held court admirably as we all chipped in with our thoughts on magic, Psychic Sally and a host of other stuff. You can listen to or download the audio we managed to grab below. One funny bit - at one stage a phone-in caller launches in to a story about seeing a magician down the country. As he begins to describe the effect, in unison we all point towards the ceiling. Low and behold we are the psychic ones as he is of course describing Card on Ceiling. Cue smug smiles from us and bewilderment on the faces of the studio engineers. Enjoy!

Brendan Byrne on RTÉ Radio 1's Mooney Show

Magician and editor here at IMN Brendan Byrne, (it's hard writing about yourself in the third person) was a guest on RTÉ's Mooney Show on Radio 1 earlier today.  (Now switching to first person) I was delighted to be asked on to preview and promote the upcoming Shenanigans convention which starts this Friday.  In addition to letting people know about our upcoming shindig, host Aonghus McAnally and myself chatted a little about the dangers of scams, magic in general and there was even time for a trick.

You can listen to the piece below and find out all about Shenanigans by visiting their website.

Brendan Byrne to Judge at Blackpool

Your editor here at IMN, in other words me, has been asked to be part of the judging panel for the FISM European Championships of Magic at this years Blackpool Convention.  I will be part of the Stage Competition judging panel.  I am priveliged to be asked.  It does mean I won't be floating around the convention as much as usual but should make for an interesting weekend.  As much as possible I intend to blog about the other aspects of Blackpool while there via my iPhone so if you are not attending do keep an eye here, on Facebook or Twitter.

If you are going and see me around come over and say hi.  I'll be the one in the ridiculous garb as seen in the pic on the left.

New website Design Service for Magicians

DesignmeSite.com is the new website design service for magicians and entertainers.  DesignMeSite is brought to you by the same person who brings you IrishMagicNews.  Currently working on a couple of projects for friends, Brendan is now opening up this service for the wider entertainment communty.

"I have designed all my own performing-career sites in addition to IrishMagicNews and at this stage feel well positioned to provide an affordable web design service to the community here.  As I am a gigging entertainer myself I do feel that I have a good understanding of  what is required for a smart web presence that promotes our unique capabilities", Brendan tells us.

The starting price point for a unique and smart looking site is remarkably good value and with a host of packages available we encourage you to check out www.designmesite.com

New President at the SIM

John Bowden, after three years at the helm of the Society of Irish Magicians handed over the presidency to Brendan Byrne (that's me who runs this site) at the clubs recent AGM. IrishMagicNews (that's me) managed to grab a word with Brendan (that's me too) during some down time and here is what I said to myself .

"I am honoured and humbled by my appointment and look forward, together with a terrific council and support team, to lead the SIM for the coming year.  There are exciting times ahead and while the future excites me it would be remiss of me not to  recognise the massive commitment that our outgoing president John Bowden brought through his 3 years as president.  John, who travels from Kilkenny to Dublin to attend meetings never missed a single one in his three year tenure.  In addition, he represented the SIM both domestically and internationally with charm, dignity and enthusiasm and I know the members of The SIM will join me in expressing sincere gratitude for his wonderful work and the time he devoted."

Brendan Byrne on The Magic Newswire

Regular readers will know that we are a big fan of The Magic News Wire here at IrishMagicNews.  I was delighted to be asked to be their official reporter on the Derren Brown Events specials currently running on Ch4.  In addition to reporting on Derren, I also got the opportunity to plug IrishMagicNews and mention to any prospective lecturer's listening not to forget about Ireland when setting out their tour itineraries.  You can listen to my chat with Dodd about Derren's shows here and here
