Having been involved in magic as a performer, a convention organiser and as a society officer all my adult life I have often been frustrated at the lack of communication between societies in Ireland. This coupled with the fact that there was no 'one place' for visitors to access information to help them with their vacation and /or lecture tour in Ireland was a driving force in the conception of this site. In addition, while co-organising conventions over the last few years it was frustrating that as organisers we were relying on other societies to ensure their members were aware of our event and were giving it the promotion it needed. These frustrations, I imagine, are shared the country over by event and convention organisers.
Around mid May of 2009 I decided to take the bull by the horns and I launched IrishMagicNews. Originally inspired by the brilliant magicweek.co.uk the site lived for over a year in its original form. The sheer volume of stories and the need for a more blog style site I made the switch to the system I am currently using with help, encouragement and sound advice from Dodd Vickers of The Magic Newswire.
From the very start I wanted this site to be transparent. Have no affiliation to any society or performer. To be of the magic community and for the magic community. The whole island over.
Relevant news from anyone and everyone will be accepted. It relies on your input so please submit news often and timely.
Thank you and here's hoping this site can continue to flourish and grow and contribute to the wonderful art of magic in Ireland.
In time this site may, maybe just, become an online history of modern day magic in Ireland. Wouldn't that be wonderful?
I've planted the seed, now lets help it grow.
Regards,
Brendan
